Floating Egg

 

In this demonstration, the students show that density can be used to make an egg float in a glass of water.

The project above is a DEMONSTRATION. To make it a true experiment, you can try to answer these questions:

  1. Does the amount of salt change the position of the egg?
  2. Do other substances mixed with the water instead of salt make the egg float?

"The Magic of Science" Grant

In November 2008, Mrs. Russ received a $1000 grant from The National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA). NDIA Gulf Coast Chapter awarded grants to Okaloosa County School District teachers through their ACCEL Grants program. The grants are intended to support innovative classroom projects that foster enthusiasm for math and science. Mrs. Russ' project, "The Magic of Science," enabled her students to research, write, and produce a series of science podcasts that demonstrate concepts taught in the third grade science curriculum.
