Bend a stream of water

In this demonstration, the students show the power of static electricity. You can read the directions for this demonstration here.

The project above is a DEMONSTRATION. To make it a true experiment, you can try to answer these questions:

  1. Does water temperature affect how much the water bends?
  2. Does the size of the balloon (or plastic comb) affect the static power?
  3. Does the amount of moisture in that air affect the static power? Try it after someone has taken a shower in the room.
  4. Does the material that the comb is made of affect the static power?

or think of your own questions to answer.

"The Magic of Science" Grant

In November 2008, Mrs. Russ received a $1000 grant from The National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA). NDIA Gulf Coast Chapter awarded grants to Okaloosa County School District teachers through their ACCEL Grants program. The grants are intended to support innovative classroom projects that foster enthusiasm for math and science. Mrs. Russ' project, "The Magic of Science," enabled her students to research, write, and produce a series of science podcasts that demonstrate concepts taught in the third grade science curriculum.
