Reference Center
At the Reference Center, students practice their skills using the dictionary, thesaurus, atlas, almanac, and other reference books. They also learn to use the table of contents, glossary, and index.
The students use the reference materials to find the answers to questions on the task cards. They write the question and the answer in their Notebook. They may also use this time to work on the Golden Astronaut Challenge Club questions.
Materials
- At least one set of Task Cards from:
- Dictionary Detective Cards
from Evan Moor. These four sets of 32 cards each focus on the skills needed to use a dictionary. The cards contain questions requiring students to look for definitions, guide word, parts of speech, syllables, accent marks, and illustrations.
- Reference Search Cards
from Evan Moor. Each set of cards focuses on the use of a different reference source: dictionary, encyclopedia, almanac, and atlas.
- Dictionary Detective Cards
